<title><![CDATA[Papula-Nevinpat opens an office in Germany 1 January 2012]]></title>

	Patent and trademark agency Papula-Nevinpat continues to expand its international operations by opening an office in Munich, Germany, on 1 January 2012. Mikko Piironen, European Patent Attorney, has been appointed as the Head of the German office. He has been working at Papula-Nevinpat since 2001, managing patent issues for companies mainly in the fields of telecommunications, software technology and mechanics.</p>
<p>
	&rdquo;We are the only Finnish patent and trademark agency to operate abroad. We were the first Western agency specializing in industrial property rights as we started in Leningrad in 1990. As of 2012, we will also be able to offer our clients better contacts to the EPO (the European Patent Office) as well as to strengthen our business in Russia by being close to our clients in Central Europe. Additionally, we will have a great opportunity to extend our international network of attorneys and to deepen our EP expertise for the benefit of our clients&rdquo;, said Markku Simmelvuo Papula-Nevinpat&rsquo;s Managing Director.</p>
<p>
	Piironen commented on his new position: &rdquo;I am very excited to utilize my patent experience in a new environment. This assignment gives me a great opportunity to drive further the development and internationalization of our company, and a possibility of personal development in the field of oral hearings of the EPO, so that we can even better serve our clients in application as well as opposition cases.&rdquo;</p>
<p>
	In addition to his role as a Patent Attorney, Mikko Piironen has actively participated in organizational activities in Finland, for example by acting for three years as the Secretary of the Association of Finnish Patent Attorneys. He has created an extensive foreign contact network through participation in international conferences in the field.</p>

	Markku Simmelvuo, Managing Director at Papula-Nevinpat, has been appointed new Board member in the Foundation for Finnish Inventions. The term of the new Board will last to the end of 2012. Mr. Simmelvuo has already been involved as a member in the Foundation Council, representing the Association of Finnish Patent Attorneys.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Patent Term Extension in Belarus]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>
	Rules relating to extension of a patent term have been adopted in Belarus. The rules have come into force on 2 February 2011. The patent term can be extended for patents relating to pharmaceutical and plant protection products. Accordingto these rules, a request for extension of the term of a patent shall be filed when the patent is in force within 6 months from the date on which information about the issued patent was published in the official bulletin or, if the marketing authorization to use the claimed product was issued later, from the date on which such authorization was issued.</p>
<p>
	The Eurasian Patent Office will extend the patent terms in accordance with the above rules for cases where information about the issued patent was published in the official bulletin, or the marketing authorization to use the claimed product was issued, as the new rules have come into force.</p>
<p>
	In case the patent and the marketing authorization have been issued more than 6 months prior to 2 February 2011, arequest for extension of the term of a patent can be filed no later than in 6 months from the date on which the new rules came into force, i.e. by 2 August 2011, provided that the 20-year term from the filing date of the patent application has not expired by the date of the request.</p>
<p>
	<br />
	The following documents are needed for filing the request for extension of the patent term in Belarus:</p>
<p>
	- Belarussian Letters Patent Document (original) / the number, title and filing date of the Eurasian basic patent registered in Belarus</p>
<p>
	- notarized copy of the marketing authorization including information on the product making possible its identification as the product defined in the claims of the patent</p>
