Patent Councellor Antti Papula (1943 – 2005)
Antti Papula was born on 23 August 1943 in Hämeenlinna. He took his matriculation examination at Hämeenlinna Upper Secondary School in 1963, and gained a M.Sc. degree in chemistry from the Helsinki University of Technology in 1972. After graduation, he worked as a patent attorney at a Finnish patent office Heinänen Oy. In 1975, he founded his own patent and trademark agency, presently known in Finland as Papula Oy, or internationally as Papula-Nevinpat.
Managing director of Papula-Nevinpat
Antti Papula worked as the Managing Director of our company until 2000, and then continued as Chairman of the Board. During these 25 years at the company, he established a first-rate business culture, which, to this day, continues to be the basis of all our operations.
Bridge builder between western and Russian corporate cultures
Antti Papula was active in creating contacts in Russia and Eurasia. He was unquestionably one of the greatest authorities on industrial property rights in Russia and the CIS countries. Mr Papula shared his expertise by giving seminars and writing international articles.
Antti Papula also played an important role as a developer of expertise in industrial property rights in Finland. He aimed to bring patent attorneys into the sphere of public control, and was in great demand in Finland as a lecturer.
Patent Councellor
As a token of acknowledgement and recognition for the life-work of Antti Papula, M. Sc., the President of the Republic of Finland awarded him the title of Patent Counsellor on 19 May 2004. This was only the fourth time that such an honour had ever been bestowed.
