Audio technology studies the production, processing, storage and reproduction of electrical audio signals. Typical applications include microphones, loudspeakers, speech processing and different kinds of storage media.

In particular, applications relating to different digital storage media are being developed more and more. As examples, one could state MP3 files and related portable players with supplementary services, such as the iPod player and the iTunes Store online service.
