Patenting in Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine – what international applicants need to know

Please note that starting from 1 January 2024, there will be an average increase of 25% in official fees at the Eurasian Patent Office. For example, the basic official fee for filing a patent application will increase to 50000 RUB from 36000 RUB, the basic official fee for a substantive examination will increase to 50000 RUB from 40000 RUB, and the granting and publication fee will increase to 30000 RUB from 25000 RUB.
If you are planning to file a Eurasian patent application or have applications pending with the EAPO, it is recommended that you make the pending official fee payments before 1 January 2024 to save costs.

Please be informed that on 16 April 2025, the Ukrainian Parliament adopted a new law that cancels the special wartime IP rules enacted in 2022. These rules temporarily suspended various deadlines and extended IP rights during the martial law period. The new law will enter into force 30 days after its official publication, following signature by the President of Ukraine.
