Papula-Nevinpat opens an office in Germany 1 January 2012

14.12.2011
Patent and trademark agency Papula-Nevinpat continues to expand its international operations by opening an office in Munich, Germany, on 1 January 2012. Mikko Piironen, European Patent Attorney, has been appointed as the Head of the German office. He has been working at Papula-Nevinpat since 2001, managing patent issues for companies mainly in the fields of telecommunications, software technology and mechanics.

”We are the only Finnish patent and trademark agency to operate abroad. We were the first Western agency specializing in industrial property rights as we started in Leningrad in 1990. As of 2012, we will also be able to offer our clients better contacts to the EPO (the European Patent Office) as well as to strengthen our business in Russia by being close to our clients in Central Europe. Additionally, we will have a great opportunity to extend our international network of attorneys and to deepen our EP expertise for the benefit of our clients”, said Markku Simmelvuo Papula-Nevinpat’s Managing Director.

Piironen commented on his new position: ”I am very excited to utilize my patent experience in a new environment. This assignment gives me a great opportunity to drive further the development and internationalization of our company, and a possibility of personal development in the field of oral hearings of the EPO, so that we can even better serve our clients in application as well as opposition cases.”

In addition to his role as a Patent Attorney, Mikko Piironen has actively participated in organizational activities in Finland, for example by acting for three years as the Secretary of the Association of Finnish Patent Attorneys. He has created an extensive foreign contact network through participation in international conferences in the field.
