Navigating the sanctions jungle: Intellectual property rights in Russia post-2022
Riikka Palmos from Papula-Nevinpat has authored an update on the complex landscape of sanctions affecting intellectual property rights in Russia.
We are proud to share that Papula-Nevinpat has once again been ranked as a leading patent firm in Finland in the 2024 edition of Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) Patent 1000 – The World’s Leading Patent Professionals – in the patent prosecution category.
According to IAM Patent 1000, ‘Papula-Nevinpat, one of the best patent agencies in Finland, is renowned for its experience, reliability and cooperative approach. With a team of esteemed professionals and experts in their respective fields, they take initiative and make significant contributions to patent matters both nationally and internationally, providing excellent service and maintaining open communication. A testament to its capabilities, the outfit has eight practitioners listed in the guide this year.’
IAM Patent 1000 states the following about our patent attorneys: Managing director Markku Simmelvuo and patent department head Folke Johansson bring a wealth of expertise in information technology, telecommunications and electronics to the table. Possessing an in-depth knowledge of procedures across Russian and Eurasian patent offices, Simmelvuo leverages a carefully curated global network to assist clientele. Johansson is a force to be reckoned with in and out of the courtroom, as he facilitates the smooth negotiation of IP-rich deals and trains patent professionals in the country.
Further bolstering the firm’s ICT and electronics offering are team lead Tomi Konkonen and Matti Brax. Konkonen utilises a diverse background, including roles at Finland’s National Patent Office, Nokia and the EPO in Munich, to guide patrons through different patent procedures. “Quick to learn and understand new technologies, Matti proposes practical solutions to complicated issues. His blend of technical and legal knowledge makes him a prime choice for EPO oppositions, in particular when attacking a third-party patent.”
Team lead Jukka Korhonen and IAM Patent 1000 newcomer Matti Ylitalo stand on the mechanics and physics side. Korhonen’s time as a former researcher on microsensors and optical measurements for industrial and meteorological applications informs his approach to conducting invention analyses, preparing intricate applications and litigation support assignments. “Meticulously, Matti identifies the key aspects of his client’s business and the technical details at hand. He drafts European patent and PCT applications and handles other office actions before the respective offices.”
Team lead Linda Norrgård and Satu Lehesranta represent the group’s chemistry and process technology offering. Norrgård possesses a mix of in-house and private practice experience, where she focused on a range of fields including pharmaceutical chemistry, polymer technology, metallurgy and food technology. A port of call for entrepreneurs and start-ups, she helps steer her following through the complex patent landscape with confidence. Lehesranta “is highly sought after for her translations of complex chemical matters into layman’s terms and for her resourcefulness in managing global patent prosecutions. Her insightful questioning during patent drafting improves the scope and clarity of the claimed subject matter.”
