Folke Johansson

Director (Patent Department), European Patent Attorney

Folke Johansson is Director (Patent Department) at Papula-Nevinpat and a European Patent Attorney. He is also a partner in the company and a member of our company’s Legal Team Russia.

Folke first started his Intellectual Property career in 1991 when he was hired as a patent agent at a Finnish patent agency. In 1995 he moved to the telecommunications industry and his extensive patent experience includes identifying and handling inventions, drafting and prosecuting patent applications, patent strategy work, licensing and litigation, purchasing and selling of patents as well as managing large patent portfolios.

Folke joined Papula-Nevinpat in 2010 as Director of the Patent Department where he is responsible for internal processes and competence development as well as for developing client relationships. Folke regularly acts as an expert in patent litigations, and has a lot of experience of Oral Hearings before the European Patent Office (EPO), both before the Examining Division as well as before the Opposition Division and the Boards of Appeal.

Folke travels frequently, lecturing and speaking at conferences about EP, PCT and US patent systems as well as patent management and strategy.

HeGe is in charge of IPR at OP Financial Group, as part of the Strategy Unit and OP Lab, where he works with new innovations and services.

Before joining OP, HeGe spent several years in the gaming industry, both in Silicon Valley and in Finland, and before that at Nokia. Having also worked with network security and having spent the early years of his career in academia, HeGe has experienced the scale and complexity of working in major global companies, the speed and innovation of working in startups, as well as the more theoretical side of research.

Having worked in almost every role possible, including various business, product and top management roles, HeGe has been innovating, building and heading products and services used by millions of mobile and internet users.

US Patent Attorney, Partner

Kurt Maschoff is a US Patent Attorney and a co-founder of the company Buckley, Maschoff & Talwalkar. Kurt practices law specializing in patent prosecution and counseling and he has a particular interest in financial servicves, cryptography, telecommunications, medical device and semiconductor technologies.

Prior to founding his firm he was the first inhouse Patent Counsel for Visa International Services Association. Since that time, he has focused a large part of his practice in representing financial services firms in patent matters. Kurt’s clients have included large international payment service providers as well as startups, including a startup that was acquired by PayPal, in large part due to the strength of the startup’s patent portfolio.

Before law school, Kurt served in the U.S. Air Force as a Captain at the Space Systems Division where he managed the technical development of a mobile satellite control station. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from New Mexico State University in 1985 and his J.D. from the University of Oregon in 1993, where he was an Associate Editor of the Oregon Law Review.

Kurt has spoken frequently to Bar Associations and other groups on the topics of patent licensing, patent prosecution, and patent asset management. He is admitted to the bar in Connecticut, Washington, Oregon, and California and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
